Off-Page Optimization

Updated on

Off-page optimization includes all the SEO tasks that are done to other websites to increase the rank of your own site.

That generally means link-building.

Search engines consider a link to your site to be a vote for the value of that resource. Clever SEOs have tried to game the system, so ranking isn’t as simple as pointing a ton of random links at your site, but high-quality links are still hugely important.

This tutorial won’t cover link building, because that’s a separate area of SEO. This is a technical SEO tutorial, so we’ll mostly be looking at on-page optimization.

You can think of on-page optimization as making the site look good and crawlable, and off-page optimization like driving votes (links) towards your website. Both things are important for ranking a site in search engines.
